Challenges faced by tertiary students in South Africa: 9th April
Tertiary students face a number of challenges ranging from limited financial assistance, to poor preparation by the school system, and racism as was demonstrated recently on the campus of the University of the Free State. Tertiary students and institutions are often in the news for the wrong reasons. Fee related university disruptions, questionable standards, and racism are three examples of the kind of issues that have attracted recent newspaper headlines. Yet the output of the tertiary sector is one of the most critical ingredients in the make-up of a future South Africa. Join the Institute at this roundtable briefing to hear the head of the South African Students Congress in South Africa, David Maimela, discuss the problems faced by tertiary students and what should be done to resolve them.
This briefing is sponsored by the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Liberty.
The roundtable briefing series is a free service open to the public operated by the Institute to provide a forum to discuss and analyse topical current affairs issues affecting South Africa.
